The word Pearl, when used without a qualifying word, such as,cultured or simulated, indicates a natural pearl. Only natural saltwater or freshwater pearls that have been properly identified may be called Pearls without qualifying terms.
Cultured should be used as a qualifying term for any cultured saltwater or freshwater pearl.
Pearls that are simulated can be identified with the qualifier: simulated, imitation, or artificial.
For example:
Dyed, Irradiated or otherwise color-treated pearls must also be identified as such in the description.
