How much information do I need to include in an item description? |
|
Making a reasonable effort to provide adequate item information in a full text description is required per the Common Ruby Lane Shop Requirements. Depending on the item, a full text description might include such particulars as size, manufacturer, condition (even if that condition is 'Mint') and year of manufacture, if known. Any special information offered about an item is always a plus, since the shopper viewing the item may be a new collector who is likely to be unaware of some of the things that a veteran collector would take for granted.
Many well-written item descriptions may contain 100 words, or more. It is important to keep in mind that shoppers cannot touch or examine the items in your shop, so they must rely on the shop owner to adequately and accurately describe the item being offered. The more information you can provide a shopper, the more likely they are to purchase from you and remain satisfied with their purchase after delivery.
If possible, think of some of the key features that you would point out if discussing an item with a potential buyer at a live venue and then consider adding that same type of information to your item descriptions.
