There are two main parts to the new Ruby Lane Shipping and Insurance Wizard:
First, on the Edit Shop Info page you can select if you offer various shipping discounts and promotions automatically, for example: Buy two or more items and shipping is free or take 20% off shipping for multiple purchases. These are called Promotional and Combination rules.
Second, is the enhancement of the current shipping calculator, which adds more shipping and insurance options for both you and your buyers, and the ability to automatically calculate an accurate total when combining items in a single order.
Step 1: Go to your Shop Owners Home page under Sell, and choose Edit Shop Info. Scroll down to Shop Shipping Rules. Shipping Rules tell the wizard what discounts, if any, you would like applied to items combined into a single package. In order for it to be able to calculate this discount, all items in a given package must have the same type of shipping cost (e.g. Fixed or Calculated).
Step 2: Using the drop down menu, set the currency under which your shipping costs are valued.
Step 3: Choose if you are offering Fixed-price shipping when combining items with fixed-price shipping into packages.
Step 4: The next option is Calculated-Price Shipping Rules, which is for combining items with calculated-price shipping into packages. Calculated-Price Shipping Rules allows you to calculate the shipping cost based on the total weight of the package.
Step 5: Next specify if UPS is one of your shipping service options, and if so, which type of service you use.
Step 6: Promotional Shipping Rules: Select whether you offer free or discounted shipping on orders, and under what conditions. If you do not wish to offer promotional shipping, simply choose "Not offered". (Please note that you are able to specify in later steps whether certain items in your shop do or do not qualify for the promotional shipping rules you have chosen here.)
Step 7: Click "Update" in the lower right corner when finished with this page.
Step 8: Specify the domestic shipping you offer for each item. You do this at the time an item is added or modified, or you can use Power Update to make your selections for all or a group of items already in your shop.
From your Shop Owners Home page, go to Add Items or Modify Items. Scroll down to "How will you ship the item domestically?' Here you can select up to three shipping services that you will provide for this item. If you select more than one, the buyer can then choose which service they prefer. For example, you may want to offer buyers a ground service and an expedited service.
Under Domestic Service 1, choose the shipping service from the drop-down menu. The menu also contains the Free or Fixed shipping options. Once you've chosen your shipping method, more options may appear asking you to choose Free or Fixed shipping, or if the shipping is to be calculated based on the buyers location. You are asked to specify the shipping service even if shipping is free or fixed, in order to allow the buyer the option of choosing how they would like the item shipped. For example, you may choose to offer free shipping on ground service, but charge a fee for an expedited service.
If you would like to offer more than one Domestic Service (such as an expedited service), select which one from the drop-down menu in Domestic Service 2. You may offer up to three domestic shipping services.
If you are shipping a large item such as furniture, you can choose Freight. In this instance, Freight, Determined After Checkout is an option which is displayed to prospective buyers when viewing the item in your shop. Once a buyer has purchased an item and you receive a Purchase Order, you need to determine the shipping cost and send the buyer their total through the Manage Transactions page.
Step 9: Repeat the process if you plan to ship internationally. Determined After Checkout is an option for international shipping. Again, you can select up to three services that you provide for an item, specifying the regions you ship to for each
Step 10: If required, enter the appropriate information on the weight, size, and dimensions of the package.
Step 11: Indicate whether you want to apply your Combined or Promotional Shipping Rules to this item.
Step 12: What insurance do you provide for the item? Enter your insurance selections for shipping this item domestically. Choose "Calculate" and the Wizard will automatically calculate the total for you based on the shipping services you have chosen to offer. However, you need to also select a backup option below this in case "calculate" cannot be completed. You can also indicate that the user can decline insurance on this item. Repeat the process for international insurance.
