Ruby Lane shoppers can subscribe to receive Shop Announcements that contain news about your shop. This is a great marketing tool for shops! Shoppers choose to receive your shop announcements by clicking on the Subscribe link in the Shop Tools menu of your shop. Shop Announcements are different than the Ruby Lane Wish List where buyers may choose to receive an email notification listing new or changed items within your shop. In contrast, Shop Announcements are a brief promotional update that you compose and send to those who have chosen to receive them.

What Should I Put In A Shop Announcement?

Buyers who've signed up to receive announcements regarding your shop usually want to know what's new. They've chosen to receive announcements from your shop because they have an interest in some or all of the items that you offer. They may be looking for a particular item or generally interested in a category of items within your shop.

Here is an example of an effective shop announcement:

Hello: We at Tip Top Artisan Jewelry are pleased to announce that we've just added a brand new line of Precious Metal Clay Jewelry to our unique offering of handcrafted bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Precious Metal Clay is a relatively new material that is made of tiny metal particles that are suspended with a water-based organic binder. This material can be molded and shaped in a virtually limitless number of ways to make fine silver jewelry. During firing, the binder and water burn off completely, leaving only the precious metal behind. After firing, silver PMC is .999 pure.

We've just added a variety of bracelets, earrings and necklaces using this wonderful material combined with strands of genuine turquoise, chrysophrase and green garnet beads. You'll find these new items on my shop's home page. We invite you to stop by to see them today!

Keep It Brief

It's important to keep in mind that those who have chosen to receive your shop announcements may have chosen to receive other shops' announcements as well. All they need is a brief reason to go to your shop. The space for composing your Shop Announcement is limited to 1,000 characters.

How Often Should I Send Out A Shop Announcement?

Shoppers may choose to request announcements on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. They also may choose the day of the week they wish to receive them. If you compose and send a Shop Announcement on a Saturday and someone on your list has requested to receive Shop Announcements on Monday, that is when they will receive it, not before. We recommend saving your announcements for when you truly have news. Too many announcements that lack new and interesting information may not be well-received over time.
