What are the important points to remember when listing items in the Artisan Jewelry Lane? |
Here are the Top Ten "Artisan Jewelry Lane" Listing Errors:
10. Listing items that are not jewelry pieces or which are specifically excluded from the Artisan Jewelry Lane, such as key rings or table top jewelry boxes.
9. Listing items which do not exhibit a significant contribution by the shop owner. The requirements for the Artisan Jewelry Lane state that the artist's contribution must be at least 50% of the final product. Attaching a pre-made charm to a pre-made bracelet or a pre-made pendant on an existing chain does not meet this criterion.
8. Failing to show a maker's mark. If an artisan affixes maker's marks or quality marks to an item, they must be shown legibly in a photo.
7. Listing items as Artisan Jewelry when the shop owner is not the actual maker of the item. It is a requirement of the Artisan Lane that the shop owner make all items listed in this Lane.
6. Listing multiple non-identical items in a listing and offering shoppers a choice format listing. This may only be done with items which are considered identical. Designs which may seem somewhat similar, but that cannot be considered identical, should be listed separately.
5. Showing multiple items in a listing when only one item is offered for sale. As an example, if the listing is for a necklace, and matching pieces are available, they may be referenced in the listing description, but may not be shown in photographs in the necklace listing.
You may only use photographs of all matching items if the items are all being offered as a set in the listing.
4. Referring to an item as gold or silver without qualifiers for those terms when the item is only gold or silver in color. This has the potential to mislead a buyer, who might assume the item they are buying is actually made of Gold or Silver.
3. Using the name of a gemstone improperly as a color description. There is no such substance as a Cubic Zirconia Diamond, for instance, or an Amethyst Rhinestone. A Cubic Zirconia should be referred to as a Simulated Diamond, if you feel a diamond reference is needed. A rhinestone with an Amethyst-like color should be referred to as an Amethyst Color Rhinestone or as a Simulated Amethyst.
This applies to many of the official Swarovski Crystal color names. A Swarovski Emerald Crystal is glass with an emerald color. It should be referred to as a Swarovski Emerald Color Crystal or as a Swarovski Simulated Emerald.
2. No photos of the reverse side of jewelry pieces when the front and back are different.
And the number one error when listing items in the Artisan Jewelry Lane is:
1. Misidentifying or under-identifying precious and semi-precious substances such as Jade (a term often used incorrectly in reference to other types of stones such as serpentine); Turquoise (which is often stabilized in form, but this is not made clear); Ivory (various substances are often suggested to be ivory, including bone and various plastics), or Pearls (which may be cultured or may only be a pearl-like bead, not a natural pearl, but this is not defined).
